Alien Card Terms
These Alien Card Terms explain how the Alien Card works and what you agree to when you request and use it. The Alien Card lets you spend your crypto balance in everyday purchases, anywhere Visa is accepted. The card is issued and operated by our licensed partner Wirex; Alien provides the app and the interface you use to manage it.
These Card Terms are part of, and should be read together with, the Alien Terms of Use and the Alien Privacy Policy.
1. Who provides the Alien Card
The Alien Card is a partnership. In plain language: Alien builds the app and refers you to Wirex, but Alien is not a bank and does not issue the card.
Alien — a technology company that provides the App and interface. Alien is not a bank, is not the card issuer, and is not a regulated payment or electronic-money institution. Alien acts only as a referral source and technical facilitator for the card.
Wirex — provides and operates the card program.
Visa — operates the payment network that lets the card work at merchants.
Wirex and its licensed entities are responsible for the regulated parts of the card, including issuing the card, verifying your identity, processing your payments, and handling complaints.
2. Your agreement with Wirex
Because Wirex issues and operates the card, your use of the card is governed by Wirex’s own terms, not only by these Card Terms. Before your card is activated, you will be asked to review and accept:
these Alien Card Terms; and
any additional cardholder terms Wirex applies to the card.
If there is any conflict between these Card Terms and Wirex’s terms in respect of the regulated card service, Wirex’s terms apply to that service.
3. Not a bank account, not a deposit
In plain language: money available to your card is not a bank deposit and is not insured by any government scheme.
Your card balance is electronic money or a prepaid balance made available through Wirex. It is not a credit line, does not earn interest, is not a bank deposit, and is not protected by any deposit guarantee scheme or similar government-backed protection. The Alien Card is not a credit card.
4. How your card is funded
The Alien Card draws on the balance in your own non-custodial wallet. Consistent with Section 7.2 of the Alien Terms of Use, Alien does not hold your private keys or control your funds. When you pay with the card, the required amount is converted and settled at the time of the transaction. You are responsible for keeping enough balance available; if there is not enough balance, a payment may be declined.
Moving crypto to your card balance may involve a network bridge and blockchain network (“gas”) fees. See the Alien Card Fees page for what this costs.
5. Fees
The fees that apply to your card are described on the Alien Card Fees page. Because Wirex sets and may update the underlying card fees, the current authoritative fees are also published by Wirex; we link to them from the Fees page. Blockchain network fees are set by the network, not by Alien or Wirex, and can change.
6. Eligibility and verification
To request an Alien Card, you must:
be at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to enter into these Card Terms;
reside in a country where the card is available. The card is only available in the countries shown in the App, and the list of countries is determined by Wirex and may change over time;
meet the eligibility and sanctions requirements in Section 4 of the Alien Terms of Use; and
complete identity verification (KYC).
Identity verification is performed by Wirex through its verification provider (Sumsub). Alien receives the result of that verification, not your underlying identity documents. Wirex may decline an application, request re-verification, or block a card if verification cannot be completed or documents expire. Wirex makes its own independent decision on accepting each user, which may differ from Alien’s.
7. Using your card
The Alien Card is a virtual card that you manage in the App. Physical cards are not available. Spending and other limits apply per card and may vary by region, as shown in the App and set by Wirex.
For security, some payments require authentication. You may be asked to confirm a payment in the Alien App, or to enter a one-time code sent by SMS to the phone number you registered during sign-up. Keep your card credentials secure and do not share them.
8. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks
Refunds from a merchant are credited back to your card balance when Wirex receives them; the time this takes depends on the merchant and the payment network. If you want to dispute a transaction, Wirex manages the dispute in line with Visa rules. Disputes can generally only be raised for transactions made within the last 120 days, and typical resolution takes 60–90 days.
9. Freezing, blocking and suspension
You can freeze and unfreeze your card in the App. Wirex may suspend, block or close a card where required by law, for compliance or fraud reasons, on scheme rules, or if identity verification lapses.
In rare cases a payment may be completed by the network even though your balance was insufficient at that moment (a “force debit”). If this happens, Wirex will notify us of the outstanding amount and we will ask you to top up your balance so the card can continue to work.
10. Support and complaints
Because Wirex operates the card, questions and complaints about the card, payments, refunds, disputes, and card closure are handled by Wirex. The App shows you how to reach Wirex support. For questions about the Alien App itself, contact us at support@alien.org.
11. Liability for the card
In plain language: Alien builds the app; Wirex runs the card. So Alien is not responsible for the card itself, and the protections for your card money come from Wirex and the law — not from Alien’s liability limit.
The Alien Card is a regulated product provided by Wirex. Alien is not the card issuer and is not responsible for the card service — including issuing the card, settling payments, refunds, disputes, or card closure. Alien is not liable for the acts or omissions of Wirex, the card issuer, or the payment network, except to the extent this cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Your rights and remedies in connection with the card — including refunds, disputed or unauthorized transactions, and chargebacks — are set out in Wirex’s terms and under applicable law, and are not limited by these Card Terms or by the Alien Terms of Use.
Alien remains responsible only for the Alien App and the interface you use to access the card, and Alien’s liability for the App is subject to the limitation of liability in Section 17 of the Alien Terms of Use. Nothing in these Card Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Changes to these Card Terms
We may update these Card Terms, including to reflect changes required by Wirex. When we do, we will update the version and date above and record your acceptance of the current version when you request or continue to use the card. Continued use of the card after an update means you accept the revised Card Terms.
