What Is Meta Muse? Features, Price and How It Works in 2026
Key takeaways
Meta Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent: it completes tasks in the accounts you connect, such as email, calendar and shopping, and Meta launched it in the US on September 8, 2026.
Muse works on a Muse Secure VM, which Meta’s Muse site describes as a “persistent, isolated Linux computer with a full browser” that you and the agent share.
You add abilities through Connectors, and a separate agent called Sentinel decides which actions need your approval, according to Meta’s security post.
Muse is free with usage limits; the Power plan costs $20 a month and Maximum $100 a month, and both subscriptions are for users 18 and older, per Meta’s subscription help page.
Muse is available only in the US and Canada, Meta AI said on Threads, and you can use it on mobile, Mac, WhatsApp and the web.
Meta Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent: instead of only answering questions, it completes tasks for you, such as replying to email, booking and shopping, from a cloud computer Meta runs for each user. Meta launched Muse in the US on September 8, 2026, and it works inside the accounts you connect to it.

What Meta Muse is
Meta Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta that acts on your behalf across the services you use, and it’s separate from the Meta AI chatbot. Meta’s announcement describes an agent that can read your email and calendar, book, buy and send messages for you. Inside Meta, the project was called Hatch, Reuters reported.
Muse runs on Meta’s AI models; Meta’s security post refers to Muse Spark 1.3. The difference between the model and the agent is covered in what Muse Spark is. You can use Muse in the mobile app, on a Mac, in WhatsApp and on the web at muse.ai, according to Meta’s Muse page.
How Meta Muse works
Meta Muse works by planning a task, carrying it out on its own cloud computer and stopping for your approval when an action needs it. Each user gets a Muse Secure VM, which Meta’s Muse site calls a “persistent, isolated Linux computer with a full browser” that you and the agent share.

You ask. You type or speak a request in the app, on a Mac, in WhatsApp or on the web.
Muse plans. The agent breaks the request into steps.
Muse works in the VM. It browses sites and uses Connectors, the links to your email, calendar and other services, according to Meta’s Connectors help page.
Sentinel checks. Sentinel, a separate agent on the same machine, is “the sole permission authority” for Connector actions and anything leaving over the network, per Meta’s security post. Depending on your settings, it asks you before sending, buying or other write actions.
You get the result. Muse reports back, and the Activity log keeps a record of what it did.
Your passwords go into a Secure Credentials Store, and Meta says the AI model uses them without seeing them, according to Meta’s privacy help page.
What Meta Muse can do
Meta Muse handles tasks in a browser and in the apps you connect, from inbox triage to purchases. The main categories, based on Meta’s help pages and reporting by TechCrunch:
Email and calendar. Search your inbox, draft and send replies, manage events.
Shopping and payments. Muse pays with a one-time card number, and Meta says purchases are covered by the purchase protection of Link, Stripe’s payment service. Partners include Stripe, Shopify, Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, Wayfair and Expedia, with PayPal and Shop Pay among payment options and Instacart coming soon, TechCrunch reported.
Meta’s own apps. Facebook, Instagram and Threads connect automatically when they share your Accounts Center, per Meta’s Connectors page.
Money overview. Through Plaid, Muse can read balances, transactions and investments, according to Plaid.
Work tools. Connectors for GitHub, Granola and Notion; TechCrunch reported more than 1,500 developer applications to build Connectors.
Muse can’t shop on Amazon.com, because Amazon blocked Meta Muse in September 2026. Broad approvals have also had side effects, as when Muse shared a seller’s home address on Marketplace; Meta says Muse followed the user’s instructions and told him it would make the permission prompt clearer.
Meta Muse vs a chat assistant like Meta AI
Meta Muse acts in your accounts, while a chat assistant such as Meta AI answers in a conversation. Meta treats Muse as a separate product with its own terms, according to Meta’s privacy help page, which points Muse users to both the Meta AI Terms of Service and the Muse Terms of Service.
Product | What it does | Where it works | Access to your accounts | Who approves actions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Meta Muse | Completes multi-step tasks for you | Its own cloud computer with a browser | Email, calendar, Meta apps, payments and more, through Connectors | You, through Sentinel prompts and permission settings |
Chat assistant (e.g. Meta AI) | Answers questions and creates content in a chat | Inside the chat window | Not needed for most answers | No actions to approve |

The main thing you trade for Muse’s extra abilities is account access. How Muse compares with OpenAI’s agent is in Meta Muse vs ChatGPT.
Is Meta Muse free? Price and plans
Meta Muse is free with usage limits, and two paid plans add more capacity, according to Meta’s subscription help page:
Free: Muse with a usage limit.
Power, $20 a month: 500 million tokens a week.
Maximum, $100 a month: 3 billion tokens a week.
Subscriptions are for users 18 and older, and Meta says they’re in limited testing and not offered in every country. Mark Zuckerberg said Meta expects that “over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions” Muse completes, Axios reported. What changes between tiers is covered in Meta Muse pricing explained.
Where Meta Muse is available
Meta Muse is available in the US and Canada only, according to a reply from Meta AI’s official Threads account, which said there’s no worldwide date yet. Meta hasn’t published a list of upcoming countries. The current situation by region is in whether Meta Muse is available outside the US.
What Meta announced for Muse at Connect 2026
At Connect 2026 in late September, Meta announced new features for Meta Muse, along with a mascot and a keychain device:
Mac app control. Muse can operate apps on your Mac, according to TechCrunch.
Email address. Muse is getting its own email address, which Meta described as coming soon.
Glasses. Muse is coming to Meta’s glasses in the coming months, TechCrunch reported.
A mascot. Muse’s character, Jollybot, gets a customizable name, appearance and style, Axios reported.
Muse Charm. Muse Charm is a keychain device planned for a holiday release, with no published price, Quartz reported.
A few days later, Meta expanded Muse to small businesses, with a limited free tier, TechCrunch reported. The full list of announcements is in everything Meta announced for Muse at Connect.
How popular Meta Muse is
Meta Muse reached 2.8 million installs worldwide in its first 12 days and climbed to No. 1 on the US App Store, according to Apptopia estimates reported by TechCrunch. By September 28, downloads passed 3.4 million, according to a Sensor Tower estimate reported by The AI Insider. Both figures are third-party estimates; Meta hasn’t published its own.
What Meta Muse needs access to
Meta Muse needs access to the accounts it works in, and that access sits on Meta’s servers. Meta’s security post says the Secure VM “does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure or operate the service,” and a version encrypted with a key only you hold, the Muse Confidential VM, hasn’t launched as of October 2, 2026.
Muse uses your interactions to train Meta’s AI by default, until you switch it off in Data controls, and disconnecting a Connector doesn’t erase what Muse already learned from it, according to Meta’s privacy help page. Meta says Muse conversations and VM data don’t go to its ad systems. The details are in whether Meta Muse is safe and what data Meta Muse collects.
To be useful, Muse has to learn who you email late at night, which bills you pay late and which friend you’re planning a weekend around. That’s the part of your life you’d never post on purpose, and with Muse it sits on a computer Meta can still reach. I’d decide what Muse should know before deciding what it should do.

Who Meta Muse is for
Meta Muse fits people who already live in Meta’s apps and want an agent for everyday errands, and it’s a weaker fit for anyone who’d rather a company couldn’t reach their inbox.
A good fit: US and Canadian users who want help with email, scheduling and shopping at partner stores, and who will set permissions and check the Activity log.
Worth waiting: people who shop mostly on Amazon, people outside the US and Canada, and people whose email or messages hold sensitive health, legal or work matters, at least until Meta ships the Confidential VM.
Bottom line: what is Meta Muse?
Meta Muse is a personal AI agent that does tasks in your accounts from a cloud computer Meta runs for you, with your approval for actions that matter. It’s free to start and works with many partner stores, and today Meta can still reach the data it handles. If that last point matters to you, compare Meta Muse alternatives that keep data private.
A private alternative
Meta’s own security post says Muse’s VM doesn’t stop Meta from reaching your data, and the encrypted version is still on the way. Alien Agent is a private personal AI agent that logs into the services you already use and gets things done for you. Your data is encrypted with your own key and processed in secure hardware that Alien itself can’t access, your passwords stay in a vault the agent never sees, and nothing important happens without your approval. Your data is never used for ads and never sold. It’s in closed testing, so you’ll need an invite code.

FAQs
Did Meta remove Muse?
Meta hasn’t removed Muse, which is still available in the US and Canada as of October 2, 2026. Muse can no longer shop on Amazon.com. Amazon started blocking Muse on the evening of September 20, 2026, and users who try see a notice that an “unauthorized AI agent” violates Amazon’s Conditions of Use, according to GeekWire. Muse still shops at Meta’s partner retailers.
Who owns Muse AI?
Meta owns Muse. The agent was built by Meta, and Meta Superintelligence Labs published its security design, according to Meta’s security post. Muse uses Meta’s own AI models, and users agree to the Meta AI Terms of Service and the Muse Terms of Service. Other products also use the name Muse, so check that you’re on Meta’s official pages.
Is Meta Muse the same as Muse Spark?
Meta Muse and Muse Spark are different things. Meta Muse is the agent you use, and Muse Spark is a Meta AI model, which Meta’s security post mentions as Muse Spark 1.3 in its description of Muse. The model shapes how well Muse understands and plans, while the agent layer decides what Muse can access and do.
Is Meta Muse any good?
Meta Muse handles email, calendar and shopping across many partner stores, and demand came fast: it passed 2.8 million installs in 12 days, by Apptopia’s estimate. Reviewers have also reported problems, including a home address shared on Marketplace, which Meta says followed the user’s instructions, and a Mac app flaw Meta patched within hours. Muse fits routine errands better than tasks where a mistake exposes your address or money.
Can Meta Muse work with WhatsApp?
Meta lists WhatsApp among the places you can use Meta Muse, alongside the mobile app, the Mac app and the web at muse.ai, according to Meta’s Muse page. Muse is available only in the US and Canada, so WhatsApp users in other countries can’t use it yet, per Meta AI’s Threads account. Meta hasn’t published a separate feature list for Muse in WhatsApp.
